Custom Video Wall and Digital Signage for Luxury Theater in San Diego
Located in downtown San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter, the TCL Theater Box offers up an exciting new luxury theater experience with eight auditoriums and six different dining options. The former Reading Cinema Gaslamp venue was renovated by the company who also owns the TCL/Mann’s/Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood, California and is a great destination for locals and tourists alike.
Fluid Sound was able to give the entertainment venue the AV systems they were looking for and to do it in a way that added to the luxury look and feel of the theater. The custom video wall not only displays information, but also serves as an architectural feature. Separate monitors were also mounted outside of each auditorium and are used as marquees announcing the current movie being shown.
Theater management approached Fluid Sound for the design and installation of a custom video wall solution that was to be mounted in a mosaic 45-degree pattern, as opposed to a traditional 2×2 or 3×3 rectangular pattern. The location of the video wall also posed a challenge, as the area was directly over an escalator, making for a complicated installation. The client also desired a “finished” look for the monitors outside of each auditorium that would complement the high-end look of the theater.
Eight NEC 75” C Series ultra-high-definition (4K UHD) commercial displays and a tvONE CORIOmaster mini 4K Multi-Window Video Wall Processor were selected so 4K images could be displayed in the lobby area. A Peerless Special Purpose Video Wall Mount was used to mount the video wall monitors at 45-degree angles, and also allow them to be articulated outward for servicing. We used a special boom lift that gave our team access to the remote area for the video wall installation. Peerless surface-mounted kiosk enclosures were used at each auditorium entrance for a polished digital signage display.
